Treasury AI, Fraud Detection Recovers $4 Billion in Improper Payments

Expanding the identification process significantly increases 2024 fraud recovery.

The Treasury Department prevented $4 billion of improper payments within government agencies in the 2024 fiscal year, announcing the milestone last week. This is a significant increase compared to $652 million recovered funds in the 2023 fiscal year.

Department officials credit this improvement to updated processes and new technologies, such as expanding screening capabilities and implementing a new artificial intelligence (AI) program to aid in departmental review.

“Helping ensure that agencies pay the right person, in the right amount, at the right time is central to our efforts,” said Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo. “We will continue to partner with others in the federal government to equip them with the necessary tools, data, and expertise they need to stop improper payments and fraud.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Secretary Adeyemo to seek God’s guidance as he fulfills his role in the Treasury Department.
  • For wisdom for Secretary Yellen and treasury officials as they work to prevent fraud in federal payments.
